matt602 - that'd be like how the UK government dragged its heels with the high-speed track for Eurostar. Trains used to crawl out of London, lurch through south-east England until they got to the Channel tunnel, and then surge at full pelt once they got on the French side... similar sorts of national "pride", I guess
