Something that I thought would be interesting to add is the increased attention Vancouver 2010 is going to get from worldwide airwaves.

Australia's Channel 7 has been known for doing a horrendously pitiful job in broadcasting the Olympics. Their commentary is amateurish, worse than NBC's and extremely partisan in favour of Aussie athletes to the point that commentators will insult other athletes from other nations. More importantly, they've done a pitiful job in terms of the hours broadcasted. Even at Sydney, at a home Games, they preferred to air rugby games rather than the ongoing Olympics. Same thing happened in Athens and Beijing.

And for the Winter Games, all they did for Torino was air a nightly four hour prime time show. No live coverage at all, and it was just 4 hours every night.

Fortunately, the IOC gave the 2010 tv rights to Channel Nine and Foxtel and they have promised to bring 24/7 coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Games through four channels. Quite an Aussie accomplishment.

The same can be said for China. Nationalist pride drew the entire nation to watch the Beijing Olympics (something like 900-million people watched the opening live on CCTV), and some of that is bound to draw many back to watching the Vancouver Games.

Hopefully, Hong Kong as well on TVB....considering the connections between Vancouver and Hong Kong you'd think there would be coverage, even though it's the winter games.

And I'm quite sure NBC is self-explanatory.

Overall, there's a lot more worldwide interest (including Europe) in the Vancouver Games given its spectacular location, its populace, and the fact that it's the most major ciy ever hosting the Winter Games. Certainly, a lot more interest than the snorefest that was Torino 2006.
