And when you add up all the Olympic costs to taxpayers, it's something like $2.5-3-billion for provincial, federal, and municipal (adding the Canada Line and Sea-to-Sky highway as Olympic costs is a complete bogus).
And really, that makes it the most modest spending Olympics (both winter and summer) in a decade.
Everyone seems to think that the Olympic Games, or even the Winter Games for that matter, are some massive expense and organizational prep that we can't handle. Reality check: we are by far the largest/most populated Winter Games host city in history.
