I'm definitely not against the idea. I even suggested Betty Fox, among others, in a related thread last year. I think the Terry Fox story is one of Canada's greatest examples of athleticism, as well as many other things. I know it doesn't relate much to winter sports or the Olympics but having Betty Fox light it would be a symbolic gesture paying homage to someone who is more worthy of the honour than the vast majority of any other Canadian candidates still alive today. Also, the cross-country torch relay really alludes to Terry's cross-country Marathon of Hope.

Anyways, Betty Fox probably won't be chosen. I'm interested in seeing who does get chosen though and I'm sure it will be someone worthy of the honour. When is this normally announced? Or is it kept secret until the lighting ceremony itself?
