Also the atmosphere is more dense at sea level than high altitudes, creating more friction (resistance force) between the athlete and the air. For example a home run (out of the park) baseball play in Denver may not have been a home run if the hit occurred at sea level. This doesn't mean records can not be brocken though in Vancouver, the athletes just have to try a little harder
