Someone else will have a better memory than me, but it was a pub called the "Coach House" or something. But yeah, I remember thinking as a kid, without an inkling that I'd develop an interest in urban affairs later on, that that strip mall was completely out of place downtown. Even at that tender age I remember being offended by it.
