We may always be importing oil, but we sure as Hell can cut down the amount and change whom we have to buy it from. The current Administration's energy policy is lacking, although I will give them props for accelerating the EIS that is underway in eastern Utah, although Hatch may have had more to do with that than the Administration. Candidly, Huntsman may be doing himself a political favor by distancing himself from the current Administration.
I have no take on the proposed Brazilian development in eastern Utah. It is so small and relies on current technology. I don't think it matters much.Things really will not begin to happen until the EIS is finished sometime next year. Once that is done, the big boys will jump in. I'm guessing, but I suspect there is a lot of designing and testing going on right now. Companies will want to be ready to go once the lid is off. They just need to know what the rules are going to be, and the EIS should establish those.
