I agree with DMTower. It would be cool to have one of these farms locally, of course 30 stories is hardly warranted in the greater Wasatch Front metro, but it would be comforting knowing that we actually produced some of our own food! I would bet none of the veggies/fruit we eat is produced locally- California comes to mind. And with the way gasoline continues to rise having local greenhouses might one day offset the cost of trucking it in. Already the US is outsourcing food production to other nations cuz lets face it, farming = low paying jobs that don't need to be in the US. Plus we recognize that we can make more money off our most productive farm land by paving it over for tract housing/urban sprawl. The reality of this scenario scares me, as I fear the day when our technology fails us. Where would the 2 million of us along the Wasatch Font get our food if they were unwilling to truck it in from elsewhere because they needed it themselves? Sounds like a recipe for a blood bath. Every other organism on our planet lives where it can find plentiful food. Producing food locally just makes sense.
