Kingston is a much better example of a well-connected small City. Less than three hours to DT Toronto. Less than three hours to DT Montreal. Two hours to downtown Ottawa. Two hours to Syracuse (when the idea of travel to the US was less nauseous). About seven hours to New York City.
And not a terrible place in its own right.
