NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ | 259 George Street | FT | 45 FLOORS
New Brunswick’s tallest tower? 800 apartments up for vote March 9
Quote:
NEW BRUNSWICK – A proposal to construct what could be the tallest building in the city, with 800 apartments, is scheduled to go before the city Planning Board on March 9.
NB Plaza Owner Urban Renewal, a joint venture between Ifany LLC and Abundant Life Family Worship Church, is proposing a 45-story mixed-use building at 259 George St. The block, bounded by Morris Street to the north, Tabernacle Way to the south and Neilsen Street to the east, is occupied by the church, which will remain.
The property is part of the Lower George II Redevelopment Area.
The plan calls for 800 apartments in the tower, including 160 affordable units. Of those, 32 would be studios or one-bedroom units, 32 would be three-bedroom units, and the remainder would be two-bedroom units.
The seventh floor would include 16,561 square feet of “destination dining and entertainment spaces,” according to the application.
The proposal also includes a 530-space parking garage. Thomas Kelso, the developer’s attorney, told the New Brunswick Housing Authority — the city’s redevelopment agency — in June 2024 that 50 spaces would be set aside for the church and that the church’s parking lot would be reconfigured and repaved.
