we have news on 40 bay street where the old diner was.

trying to find more un-paywalled info, but its going to be a big deal —

500 apartments, 25% of which will be affordable.


Diner spot that served Staten Islanders for almost a century is razed.

The city Buildings Department in March approved an application to build the high-rise.

A Buildings filing shows that the building will have 39,537 square feet of residential space and 2,614 square feet of commercial space.

It is not known when construction on the high-rise will begin.

The architectural firm listed on Buildings documents, Raymond Chan Architect P.C., of Queens, did not return Advance/SILive requests for comment.

SH Engineering designed the 9 story structural system consisting of cast-in-place concrete slabs. We designed transfer slabs at 1st floor, 2nd floor, and 3rd floor to accommodate the high end space with concealed columns.

Retail is on cellar and 1st floor. Parking is provided at 2nd floor. The rest of the floors are high end condos.
