The problem is the fact that in an average bar here you are confined in your chair and you basically cannot socialize with anyone that is not with you already.
We need what every single place on the planet has, the "classic pub model" where you get a drink and you can walk around the place talking with people. Beside clubs i don't see bars and pubs doing this in Vancouver and i don't understand why.

This one you need to blame the province not the bars. The average bar you're probably familiar with is most likely legally a "food primary license"
restaurant and not a true "liquor primary license" bar. It's basically impossible to get a new liquor primary license and all the clubs on the Granville Strip have old grandfathered in licenses. If you only have a "food primary license", I believe you're only allowed to serve alcohol to tables and people are not allowed to mingle because "it's a restaurant" (???).
