New $1.1 billion Cleveland Hopkins airport terminal will be built on site of current parking garage

Updated: May. 06, 2025

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A new Cleveland Hopkins International Airport terminal will be built on the site of the current Smart Parking Garage, a $1.1 billion project that is expected to open in 2032.

Renderings of the new terminal feature nods to Lake Erie and Cleveland’s industrial past, plus wide, light-filled spaces -- a dramatic contrast to the cramped, aged airport that travelers experience today.

But before the new terminal, the airport will build a new parking garage on the current Orange Lot, with spaces for 6,000 cars, as well as a new Ground Transportation Center and RTA station. That $301 million project is expected to open in 2029.
