The Maritimes is not my neck of the woods but could WestJet not hub YHZ with enough 737's to make it a nice transfer airport from places like New York, Boston, Philadelphia and everywhere in between to Europe? The flight path makes sense. The Canadian dollar is crap which benefits the US consumer flying via a Canadian airline/airport. WestJet could even dent Air Canada's and Air Transat's European flights. I'm not saying a huge dent but if this type of venture is profitable then why not.

Halifax had a stopover program in Halifax with Westjet and European flights just before the pandemic started.

This summer the new International Connections Facility will open at YHZ which will enable seamless international connections. The ICF allows connecting passengers to transit from international to domestic flights in the hold area, allowing for shorter connection times and quicker flight turn-around times in Halifax.
