I had left Austin in February, 1985 and didn't visit until some time in 1989. I went down to (then) Town Lake with my Mom and we took a paddle boat from just east of the South First St. bridge and I remember being so proud of my home town, finally growing some legit "skyscrapers" in that southern part of downtown. I'm sure my Mom got sick of my "wow"s and "I can't believe it"s as we passed back and forth for a good hour or so. I wasn't especially pleased with all of the set backs but I was impressed with the overall effect and the way it really stretched out downtown, all the way to the river.

Feels like yesterday...
