Preferred the previous design but I think this works well. Not all podiums are created equal and are automatically bad. I don't hear many people complaining about the podium for One Chicago - probably because it was executed well.
And as people point out this is a very similar design with the pocket park, multi use podium, and liner/low level residential apartments near street level. The ugly parts of the podium are conveniently located facing the railroad tracks and the active parts all face Fulton.
I think the design will benefit the neighborhood and continues the enhancement of Fulton Street.
