The station doesn't, but the nearby tracks do, most notably Long Bridge. You noted an increase in NY-to-DC trains, but the completion of the new Long Bridge will allow at least a doubling of both Amtrak south of DC and VRE, and Virginia is pretty committed to doing that. It'll almost be like the NE corridor extends to Richmond, and VRE will look a lot more like regional rail instead of commuter rail.

Anyway, the real purpose of the station renovation is to enable a gigantic air-rights development and make the station less dingy. It's not really about the trains.
