Home construction, sales launching at 235-acre 'agri-hood' with car-free zones outside Houston

Home construction is starting at Indigo, the 235-acre “agri-hood” with car-free zones and 42-acre community farm, and a unique concept among Houston's master-planned communities.
Developer Meristem Communities also said home sales at the 800-home community near Texas 99 and U.S. 90 in Richmond would begin next month.
Unlike a traditional car-centric neighborhood, Meristem is striving for a pedestrian-focused community. Many of the homes will line pedestrian-only linear parks known as mews, enabling large front porches and stoops to face green spaces rather than streets. These houses will have garages in the rear or on the side.
“We envision residents stepping out onto their porches and chatting with neighbors strolling by. We see children safely playing in front yards because garages are off private alleys in the back. The outdoor spaces are extensions of the homes and connective threads that support social interactions,” said Clayton Garrett, partner at Meristem Communities, in a statement.
