A new $65 million academic building has broken ground at the University of Houston’s Sugar Land campus.

The three-story, 75,000-square-foot building will be known as the Technology Building-Sugar Land Academic Building 2 (SAB2). Once completed, it will be home to faculty, staff and students who fall within the UH Cullen College of Engineering-Technology Division.

Earlier this year, UH announced the merging of its College of Technology and its College of Engineering. According to a tweet from UH President and Chancellor Renu Khator, this makes the engineering college the third-largest in Texas.

The merger aligns with UH’s goal of being ranked as a top-50 public university by U.S. News & World Report, UH said previously. This year, UH ranked No. 70 on that list, improving from its No. 91 spot last year.
