NEW YORK | 400 E. 30th ST | FT | FLOORS
Still not clear what will become of this site. No doubt the hospitals would have eyes on it, but the city most likely will use this site for housing, both affordable and supportive, and likely market rate. If they try to save the building, it would likely be with some additions for housing.

Mixed feelings about razing this. Maybe I should get my head examined.

Isn't this also the infamous Arkham Asylum from Batman? Edit: "Bellevue Hospital is not Arkham Asylum, but the historic NYC psychiatric facility served as a primary inspiration and model for the fictional Batman location. Known for its storied, often controversial past and as America's oldest public hospital, Bellevue’s reputation for housing the mentally ill inspired fictional tales of horror." |
I can see some residential construction on the wings. But the mayor wants 200,000 units of housing built. That's a big pull. Sites like this one, along with planned developments on city owned sites such as 100 Gold Street, the Bloomingdale library site, and 395 Flatbush. A lot can be included on this one site, including homeless outreach. We'll just have to wait to see where it goes, and how quickly.
