LRT opponents in shambles. There can be no denying that the LRT is attracting downtown development. Great news!

Hopefully Pane Del Sole Bakery can be retained on the bottom floor. They're a staple for a lot of people in the area.

That podium design seems interesting -- the tower itself not so much

Ironic because Pane Del Sole were anti-LRT.

I will say I really hope they can be retained. We go here regularly, and it is absolutely great. I'd hate to see another Italian/Portuguese staple business (that's actually good) disappear for bland cultureless retail. I will also mention that the actual tower is hella ugly. But glad to see more housing in this area.

These very basic and non-detailed renders are hard to judge I find.
It looks kind of ugly the way it's presented, but may actually wind up being decent. Hard to tell.

Does anyone have any intel to suggest that Darpel Investments has credibility to actually pull off a project like this? They have zero track record which doesn't mean they can't develop one, but does temper my expectations.

Ugly as all hell but it'll still look better than most of the other towers near it.

I think it's pretty easy to tell actually. It's super fugly. Massive expanse of likely faux brick panels with zero articulation and tiny jail like windows. Brings forth Barton St Jail vibes. Just straight bad architecture, plus zero retail space, and more than 50% of the ground floor is driving, parking and loading/garbage space.

God why is every new build so UGLY?

I think we can all unanimously agree this isn't a very impressive design. It's like if the ellen faircloud building had a lovechild with.. some other bland building..

and the balconies are SO tiny and so much blank space on almost the entire thing.. ugh.. just.. ugh..

If my eyes could vomit, they would.

This is were city policy fails us all if this is allowed to be built as depicted. A decent looking building doesn't cost more then an ugly one. I would think that the uglier the building, the less potential rent the owner might receive in the future.

Happy to see this part of Cannon St see some new development. However, I agree this render does not look nice at all.

Cannon is not an attractive street. Probably never will be, but better would be better.

Why do you refer to yourself as 'we'? Just curious.

Most people who do that are referring to their family - like "me and the wife" or "the family"

Why does a podium need definition? I could understand them attacking the previous design for being ugly, but I'm not understanding the "shadowing" and "privacy" concerns with 2 18~ floor buildings behind it, 31 floor buildings going up south of it, and a gas station and car lots in between...?
