That's kind of sad given the relative lack of green space away from Bayfront Park in the downtown/Brickell area, even if it is exclusively on the Key.

Losing the park sucks, but a lot more greenspace will be completed once the Underline is completed from Overtown to the Miami Waterfront. And Miami does actually have two great parks in Virgina Key Park and Crandon Park, and I wonder why the city of Miami and Miami-Dade County doesn't promote those parks to way NYC promotes Central Park and Prospect Park, Boston and it's Emerald Necklace, and Chicago promotes it's lakefront parks like Lincoln Park, Grant Park, and Washington Park.

Maybe the city and the county needs to promote Virgina Key, Crandon, and Bill Boggs State Parks to give Miami it's own version of the Emerald Necklace.

As for the new supertall, I'm tired of the FAA height limits, but other than that, I'm excited for another supertall proposal since I never thought that Brickell Key would ever get such a proposal due to lack of land until today. GO MIAMI!!!

Those non-Miami parks are literally embedded within the cities, surrounded by a dense urban fabric. The 2 you list in Miami are already multiple miles off the mainland via a single bridge. It's radically different from the urban parks of NYC, Boston, and Chicago.

For instance, within 5 minutes you can walk from the densest built-up area of Boston (Downtown Crossing) to the middle of Boston Common. From downtown Miami it looks like the walk to Virginia Key Park (the closer of the 2 you listed) would be at least an hour, one way.

Try convincing any city to buy prime developable land from a private owner, change the zoning, and maintain a park. It's tough. The easiest areas for cities are blighted areas or plots they already own. However, Miami does need green space, not everyone has a boat.

And this one wasn't really a park. It was just a vacant lot that the developer had not developed yet and actually dressed up with trees and benches and stuff. I wish more developers would do that with their vacant lots.

If you look at the lot, there is actually a little "Brickell Key Park" that will remain. The new super tall tower where go where the "south lawn" is on the map. The 700-footer where go where the rectangular bulding next to the Mandarin Oriental is.

I can understand that the Miami-area parks I mentioned aren't a part of the mainland, but Miami has them, and all the city and county has to do is to just promote them. It's tough and challenging to have a city park the scale of a NYC, a Boston, or a Chicago in a city like Miami, where land is already at a premium due to the Miami area being wedged between the Atlantic Ocean and the Everglades (another major federally protected greenspace), but Miami does need to prove it's parks even more plus the fact that those parks are practically on islands should be a plus, not a minus. I understand that tourists will prefer to go to Miami Beach, Brickell and Little Havana, but those parks can be green gems in Miami's already adorned crown.

It's a tough task to create greenspace in the middle of downtown Miami, but I already see the Underline in Miami as a start, although many on here won't consider the Underline a major park. At the least, it is a trail which can lead to the three Miami-area parks I just mentioned. And the Underdeck should be able to transform Miami into a city with major greenspace from Overtown to the Miami waterfront.

The city needs to be smart on how it can further utilize it's landscape and greenspace and the Underline and the Underdeck are great starts. Hopefully, the city can expand Metrorail to all points north, south, and west and let the auto centric ideas for Miami go. That should set Miami apart from Southern cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Dallas, and Houston since Miami has only 36 sq mi of land and needs to utilize it's land differently compared to those aforementioned cities.

Looks like a tree permit was put in place. Usually the infancy stages of eventual site prep. Hopefully something manifests here.

Even if they just get the 700 footer up that’ll be imposing for the site.

So that means the current Mandarin Oriental gets imploded to make way.

Can they redevelop and/or rehabilitate the bridge to Brickell Key, please?

I've stayed at the Mandarin Oriental and really, really love the restaurant La Mar. So while that will be a big loss, I think the trade off is a good one.
