SALT LAKE CITY | Sundial Tower | FT | 23 FLOORS
 

This tower has been rumored for awhile, with the SLC forum dubbing it the "450 Main Tower" but until now there has been no official indications of its existence. This article mentions a "Sundial Tower" with 425,000 sq ft. of office space, developed by Hines. The JLL report mentioned in the article also says this:
Previously, the rumor was that the design had "incredible geometry" similar to the Bank of America Tower in NYC. It will be exciting to see the renders come out when the project is publicly announced!

The site is likely on the east side of Main Street. Here's a little map with the two possible sites in red:

As an aside, that massive 10-acre parking lot (Block 40) has an incredible history and it's a shame that the buildings there were demolished in the 80s.

Wow, that's nice. It's a shame about the parking garage, but that's a cool building.

Yeah I quite like it too, although I wish it was about 10 floors taller or half as wide and with less parking. There's a light rail station literally right in front of it. I'll be sure to get the database updated with this building as soon as the height is revealed (probably 300-320 ft). Architect is Pickard Chilton.

Now there are rumors of a forthcoming residential tower on that empty grass lot next to it too!

It doesn't look that fat. It just runs the length of its block like many buildings do. Besides, there are bulkier buildings in Salt Lake City, most notably, the Wells Fargo Center.

Yeah I don't think the shape itself is too out of place in the current skyline. It might be a little jarring because it is oriented east-west instead of north-south like all of the other towers.

And it actually only spans half a block haha. SLC has monster 660 ft square blocks, so this new tower is probably about 300 ft wide (Willis Tower in Chicago is only 225 ft square). Wells Fargo is actually a great comparison to make because the size and aspect ratio of its base is almost identical to this new tower, except Wells Fargo's roofline is ~70 ft higher than this.

Oh, wow. I didn't realize they were that large. I just looked on Google and assumed. Yeah, that's pretty big. Our blocks in Austin are 276x276 feet, and the ones along Congress are 276x335 feet. So like, where the Frost Bank Tower is. That block east to west is 335 feet long. Of course, the tower itself isn't that large.

Some info about the 15-story residential project next door came out and they have the Sundial listed at 344 ft. Glad SLC can add +1 to the 100m category!
