Old Buildings Converted to Condos in Ottawa
I lived in one of these for 7 years and I left with a soft spot for old buildings converted into condos/lofts. I was wondering if anybody knew of any others in the City.

For 12 Stirling, I was under the impression that it was a complete tear down and rebuild (replica), but Hobin's website description seems to suggest it wasn't.
https://www.hobinarc.com/projects/yard-station/ Based on the 2015 Streetview, it looks like they dismantled the building down the the steel frame and re-built. https://www.google.com/maps/@45.4058...7i13312!8i6656 |
Your list covers a whole lot. Other than a few mid-century office buildings, I can't think of any other historic structures that were converted to residential. Zibi's historic industrial buildings will nearly all be commercial, and one hotel.

45 Spencer is one to add

From this great blog post I found: https://www.stevepeippo.com/ottawa-r...n-ottawa-2jht6
"120 Holland | The Lofts https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/c...g?format=2500w Neighbourhood: Wellington West Built: 1956 Converted: 1998 Developer: Routeburn 16 units Has anyone else mistaken these exclusive condos as office space?? The original two-storey Laura Secord factory was built in 1956, with floors three, four, and five added about 10 years later. The building was converted to lofts in 1998. The condos themselves feature extremely unique windows — they have 15 panes of glass within 1 window section. Something I love about this is the interior look of a ‘floor to ceiling’ window, but they retain space at the perfect height to push furniture against the wall, making every wall in the extremely long main rooms usable." |
I knew it started out as a 2 storey building, but thought it was an office building.

I wish the old school on the SE corner of Gilmour and O’Connor could be converted or incorporated into a residential building.

Here's the original thread for that one: https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/sho...hlight=gilmour Considering Ashcroft owns it, I predict demolition by neglect. |
Within a few years, we'll be able to add the Major Building to this list thanks to this development.
