Did Bob Young own the building that the Ticats were in? Curious if he's involved.

This is a nice surprise, I think it looks really good.

Hawrylyshyn Jun 23, 2020 6:32 PM

Awesome! This is the type of development we need all over downtown

TheRitsman Jun 23, 2020 7:54 PM

I really love this. Great street feel, the front podium being split up is awesome for that continued feel of the international village.

Studio JCI looking good.

I knew this was coming but I did not expect it to looks this good. Next to the KIWI project and across from Theatre Aquarius. This area is filling in nicely. Now if we could get something across from the police station.

Love it

Yes, Bob Young/The Tiger-Cats bought 1 Jarvis in 2007:

Looks good. It’s from a developer that hasn’t built anything yet so we’ll have to see if it happens.

There have been utility marking crews around the building marking the road and sidewalks around the building. It looks like they maybe getting ready to start demolition of the old Tiger Cat Building.

Sigh, generic brick facades, offset even more by the simple yet elegant arch brickwork and lintels next door.. as we "modernize" we simply get cheaper and cheaper looking, more modular, and less imaginative.. less soul.

Hawrylyshyn Nov 19, 2020 5:44 PM

I don't know, looks good to me. We are in modern times and things have changed, can't live in the past forever. It's a quality design, scale and materials, I think you need to be less picky ;)

What can I say - core urban has spoiled me - they showed we can indeed keep the past and still make buildings elegant and beautiful. It doesn't take much. It is my belief that the street height facade should still have an elegant design to it.

Ellen faircloud building on the other hand showed me the dangers of not caring about how the outside looks.

I hope they at least use shiny glazed bricks like their above renders hinted at.. but probably not..

Also I reserve the right to be an architectural grouch lol :P

Hamilton should consider itself very lucky to get a studio JCI designed building this early on in its redevelopment days

Yeah, I have to push back on this as well. For decades we've settled for mediocrity, architecturally speaking and otherwise. Our plastic fantastic throw-away culture is depressing and I'm worried we'll reach a point in the near future where we'll be surrounded by crumbling dreck that isn't even worth recycling let alone renovating. I won't even get into how this might also be an analog for our culture and civilisation, too...

Hawrylyshyn Nov 20, 2020 1:45 AM

Ya that's very understandable! However, this project (to me at least) does seem a step above most recent projects and actually appears to be a quality proposal and design
