I am so shocked . I can't even type properly.

Think of all the money generated by all the journalists hounding them around town. Just don't foot the bill for security.

Klazu Jan 14, 2020 5:58 AM

No thank you. Millionaires can pay for their own security.

Henbo Jan 14, 2020 6:25 AM

When did he say that?

He hasn't. Not publicly anyway, he has said that "Further talks are needed over the costs of security for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's move to Canada"

Most millionaires aren't a high risk for ransom and terrorism.

Kind of goes against the whole financial independence if they have Canada pay the security bill and all. I am not a fan of paying the bill with my tax dollars. The Queen probably can spare some money to pay for security for the initial move but I hope the Sussex family[Meghan and Harry] finds a way to pay there own way in regards to there long-term security needs while living here.

Not impressed at the fake news or the spelling mistakes.

We’re talking less than 0.001% of our annual budget for our royal family for a one time thing. I think we can spare it. Imagine if they actually tried to sue us for royalties for putting their face in every coin. Let’s make nice?

Klazu Jan 14, 2020 3:06 PM

To add to this, they should also go through the standard PR process. One cannot just decide to move to Canada. There are immigration laws to obey.

"our royal family"??? Bet 99 % of Canadians have difficulty with that.

Not fake new, title may be a bit dramatic. Still an issue for Canadians. What are their contributions to Canadians, other than their ancestors put their face on our banknotes.

And why is this even in the Vancouver forum, rather than the Canada one?

Too bad, its part of being Canadian. Like our second language being French. I don't like it but its what we grew up with and its part of our culture and history. You don't get a choice and its too bad if you dislike it. There's a reason why when shit happens we send aid to each other. Australia has sent firefighters to Canada more than 4 times and we've sent some back once. We buy military equipment from Britain and vice-versa. We've fought together in several wars. There are several benefits to sharing a monarch including closer relations between our nations, increased trade, and some shared history. I'm willing to bet that at any British or Australian port you get treated better as a Canadian than as an American.

In the end being under the monarchy is probably great for tourism too.

Migrant_Coconut Jan 14, 2020 7:32 PM

But the point is that they're leaving the monarchy. If they're choosing not to be royals anymore, they don't want or need a royal escort.

I wonder, do Royals need to get immigration lawyers :haha:

The Queen herself is the state personified and probably doesn't need a passport, doubt this extends to her descendants

Tetsuo Jan 14, 2020 7:38 PM

They both want to leverage the house of Sussex brand and monetize it, yet will still rely on taxpayer funded protection?

Have their cake and eat it

Migrant_Coconut Jan 14, 2020 7:47 PM

It's not the couple's idea, they're still figuring it out - this is 99.9% JT wanting to party with his friends with our money again.

I had assumed that the monarchy has automatic PR because they are the head of state.

or perhaps that is just the queen

I love how this thread is at least 60% people reacting to this as if it’s a fact, rather than pure speculation.
