The Windowless Bedroom

https://concordcanadahouse.ca/pentho...05_SPH6602.jpg

First time I've seen a bedroom in a new development be windowless. Is this completely new or has it been going on for a while?

I've seen used condos advertise their dens as bedrooms, but never a new one.

PS: Holy shit they have a car wash and a wine locker.

Old hat.

Nothing new

Yup, nothing says urbanism like people thinking it's ok to live in a cave like a mushroom.

I think Brentwood 1 and 2 have windowless bedrooms.

I remember starting seeing them about 15 years ago, usually for one bedroom units though. Any unit that has more than one bedroom and has one without windows just think of it as a den that the realtors are trying to get more money for!

I think the only issue is calling it a "bedroom". It's a perfectly good flex space that can be used as an office or whatever. Just call it something else.

To be honest, I would call and use that as a den or office. I don't know why the sudden desire to rename dens as bedrooms.

If this was a rental I'd say to increase the rent the developer can initially charge.

I'm surprised the city allows them to market this though, I thought they had requirements on developers.

This is in Toronto so perhaps its different than here.

From the Brentwood thread:

Is that second bedroom going to be a windowless bedroom (a.k.a. Den)? :(

Yeah, 3 bedroom sounds better than 2 bedroom+den.

Because they can cash in at a category change. Starling Lumina in Brentwood for example has a junior 2 bedroom category which they fetch a category differential of $10000. Their second bedroom also windowless. I willingly pay for the higher category for a 642 sf junior 2 bedroom Except at a recent walk thru, I discovered they remove a section of 3 ft x 6.5 ft from the second bedroom. Ironically the junior 2 bedroom is now 622.5 sf which is smaller than their 1 bedrom and den category of 632 sf.

Yes yes, we saw your reply already in the other thread.

Different people will read different thread. Not everybody read the same thread as you.

^ Ever heard of eye masks? They work wonders. Problem solved.

In a den I would rather have a window given its potential use as an office or reading space. A small tertiary rest space a window seems less important and if you do shift work or live in a warm area, it's not a bad idea for some.
