http://tealarchitects.com/wp-content/uploads/GardenView-1.jpg The new GardenView, located in Dartmouth’s Main Street area, is planned as a mixed-use multi-generational development project serving diverse community needs. The two buildings will include 70 apartments above a market of restaurants, cafes, and other commercial services and are at the forefront of modest cost housing in Nova Scotia. Highlighted features: • aiming to be Nova Scotia’s first 6-storey wood frame building • bench-marking through Efficiency Nova Scotia to obtain a high level of sustainability • integrating with Ocean View Continuing Care Center • landscaping a roof-top deck for residents http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/dartmouth-main-street-residential-1.3747121 http://thechronicleherald.ca/metro/13939...h-project-would-take-wood-to-new-heights Things are starting to happen, since power is being disconnected https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DIZyyRzXYAEqEcD.jpg |
It would be nice to see the same type of material used on the street facing side. The wall facing up Main St. is much less bland than beige.

This is an exciting proposal that will be long overdue shot in the arm for Main Street. Unfortunately, there is a significant number of ugly and decaying properties between Caledonia/Woodlawn Rd. and the Circ that cry out for redevelopment. The artist's concept for the Garden View property in fact omits the gritty repair shop/pizza parlour next door. Several other properties -- including the Army-Navy club building, the Seasons motel, the former Wacky Wheatley/Doull Books building, several strip malls and, of course, the vacant Ford dealership property -- are all festering eyesores IMHO.

Demolition permit was issued last week for this building. Anybody know if this project is slated to go ahead?

It looks like it needs two knobs. One to turn the volume up and down and another to select a station.

Maybe they will add it to the design. Nice art deco design. |

I'll grab the kerosine Keith. :)

I moved the latest discussion to this thread.
I'm not usually a fan of overly round buildings but that might be picky considering the low bar set by Main Street. This should be a nice addition to the neighbourhood. |
