Halifax, October 2016

Here's an assortment of pictures from my recent trip to Halifax (more will likely follow). These were mostly taken downtown and in nearby parts of the city.

:tup:Great thread someone123. Looks like some new construction going up in one of the photos.

Nice to see Halifax when the weather is decent. I visited Halifax in January 2007 and when my flight landed at the airport and I looked out the window, I could see gusty winds blowing snow across the runway. The wind chill was around -20C. Brrr!!! Looks more pleasant in these photos ;)

Thanks for the replies. I've got more photos and I'll add them when I get a minute.

I usually go back every couple of years so the construction is very noticeable to me. There are some larger new buildings but I also noticed there are more and more businesses, they're higher end, and they tend to be packed into smaller spaces that were just left empty a few years ago. The Stillwell beer garden pictured above is a good example of that. Some of the new storefronts also have multiple floors of retail, which isn't a new thing to the city but does make it feel bigger and busier.

Yes, January isn't really the time to go, although it's unusual for the city to be that cold. Usually winter temperatures there are around the freezing mark. The best time to visit is from July to early October; the weather is a little bit nicer in late summer and early fall than earlier in the year. August is ideal. I had pretty good weather on my trip but with the combination of family visiting obligations, jetlag, and the shorter days, it was hard for me to get out early enough to take pictures with clear lighting. Had I gone in June there wouldn't have been as many shadows in these pictures.

Great set of pictures there! It's too bad I didn't get to see you but I'm glad you got back for a visit and hope you had a good time.
