Stunning photos, as usual, Echoes.

Nice city. Glad the photos are already there!

Looks pretty good. Thanks for sharing these!

Echoes! First, let me just say these are amazing shots. Your ability to capture the best of Saskatoon is second to none. Second, I noticed that I feature in one of these photos... image number 9419. I'm showing my friend who was visiting from Thompson the watershed installation--he's off to the far right in the picture. That was one of the stops on his tour of Saskatoon and I love how it looks like I'm actually posing for the picture when I had no idea you were right there. I must say, as I was scrolling through that I fanboyed for a moment or two. Keep up the good work!

I remember snapping that photo and thinking, "That guy FOR SURE noticed. I hope he's not upset!" My creeping skills were on point that day. |
Fantastic photos. You should work for the Saskatchewan tourism board!

What is up with the railway bridge? |

https://c6.staticflickr.com/9/8328/2...76be1a39_b.jpg IMG_9123 by Echoes Saskatoon, on Flickr It's known as the Traffic Bridge, and was the first river crossing constructed for non-train traffic over the South Saskatchewan River at Saskatoon, opening in 1907. The amalgamation of the three communities of Nutana (east bank), Riversdale, and Saskatoon (west bank) to form the City of Saskatoon in 1906 was conditional upon the crossing being constructed. Approval of funding was one of the first acts of the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly. It's such an integral part of the story of Saskatoon. But, successive City Councils deferred maintenance of the bridge until it deteriorated to the point that it was permanently closed to traffic in 2010. There were vigorous debates about the future of the crossing following its closure - rebuild as a replica with standard width traffic lanes and proper walking and biking paths? as a modern landmark bridge? make it for bikes and pedestrians only? In the end, the faux heritage replica - accommodating motor vehicle traffic - was chosen (the worst of the options in my opinion), and its replacement is now under construction. Pictured is the last original span left standing. It will be demolished next month. |
^ Indeed that is the bridge I meant. Thanks for the explanation, that is unfortunate indeed. Historic replicas very rarely turn out well.

 what an excellent photo tour of Saskatoon!
