Photos from the Stelco Tower (100 King Street West)

Hi all. I was up in the Stelco Tower last night, on the 22nd floor. I took a couple photos, just with my cell phone, while I was up there.

Here are a few others.

very cool! the casiNO - uh i mean city centre - roof looks cool!

I think a bowling alley and a liquidation store will do much more to revitalize the core than some casino would.

...cause those are the only two options for that space

For the moment that is all that has been nibbling at the prospects for this dead space since Eatons closed up shop in 1999. That and call centres. Which is somewhat surprising, considering that James Street was fully converted to two-way traffic almost a decade ago. Maybe more options will open up if they place LRT along the A-Line.

A 2011 sector profile from EcDev places upwards of 2,000 Customer Service/Contact Centre workers in the superblock, most in either 110 or 120 King West.

Nice  It must have been quite stunning to the naked eye - night photos of Hamilton from up in a tower seem relatively rare.

The Lister Block looks great with all the windows lit up.

Perhaps two-ways tend to be more beneficial to businesses and activities that have more connection to the street.

I visited the 21st floor on Doors Open last year and wondered why there were stairs up to the 22nd that were roped off.

Other events have been held on the 21st floor too. Is the 22nd floor not open-concept like the 21st is?
Wikipedia lists the building as 26 storeys, so what about floors 23 to 26?

You really ought to post these in the Canada section as well.

Yale/Real Properties lists the building at 25 storeys and is looking to rent 16 through 24.

The building was once two-thirds occupied by Stelco and even when the ranks dwindled, with the highest housing Stelco's brass. But the upper storeys have been empty for a decade. As recently as 2006, the space had yet to be pared back to bare plates. At that point the drywalled office configurations were still up and even some ungainly custom pieces remained. There was a massive '70s-era security/reception console that I remember looking like something off the bridge of the Cygnus or the Basing Street Studios mixing desk.

Great snaps, mattgrande. It'd be nice if Yale/Real were able to rig up HD cams streaming from every face of the top floor. Call it a sales tool.

We actually went up to 23 as well (there was an event on 21, but the stairs were not roped off like at Doors Open). There's stairs up to 23, same as 22.

22nd and 23rd floors are basically the same as 21, although the higher floors had no ceiling tiles installed, and there was plenty of dust/debris on the floor.

I went up to the 22nd floor today! It was so beautiful...

I took photos but I don't really know how to upload them so I guess I won't post 'em. Haha.
