Life in DC: 9 months of loose pictures
 

Here are some loose pictures from the past several months, just taken while going about my daily business. One picture even shows the building where I live (who can guess which one?) They start last summer and run until now. The first several are from my regular camera, as are a scattered few throughout, but most of the thread are from my cell phone.

I won't bother labeling most of the pictures, but just so you know, this first one is a real place.

"Half Street Fairgrounds" were a temporary shipping container market near the Nationals baseball stadium last year. I'm not sure if it's still there.

































This is 1812 North Moore Street, in Rosslyn, VA. When complete it will be the tallest office building in the DC region.

I love DC more and more all the time. Is it the only U.S. boomtown that's doing growth the right way?

Nice photos! I love the Virginia skylines across the river.

Makes me homesick - the only thing that's missing is a Postal Service soundtrack. Good and not so good memories.

It's interesting how the core of the Rosslyn skyline has shifted from the old USA today building, to the newers scrapers over the years.

Definitely not the right way, but definitely better than many. It seems that for every building built in the center, there is a giant new greenfield subdivision in an exurb. Nonetheless, I am constantly surprised at how well the city has done, given where it was 20 years ago, and since the economy crashed, the greenfield development has slowed greatly. We're definitely on the right path.

Loudoun and Prince William are still growing very quickly, but growth in all the other outer suburban communities has slowed to a trickle. DC and Arlington are now growing faster than all the other suburbs, except Loudoun and PW.

Also it looks like a hell of a city. Been many years.

There was a posting and vigorous debate about this on Greater Greater Washington this week. Personally, I don't think the three or four new residents who will live here are worth turning the ANC and surrounding neighbors skeptical about new infill growth.

You should see the skyline now with the 1812 North Moore building. Many people now confuse Rosslyn with Hong Kong or Dubai.

Cirrus-- with the DC USA building shown above, it would be great if 3-4 floors of housing could be added above this. This is right across from the metro station and also, as you know, most of the parking in this garage goes unused. It would help the DC government recapture its investment in this property.

Great set of a great city. I really wish I'd had more time to explore the city when I visited two years ago. I was confined to the Mall most of that trip. Thanks for sharing.

I haven't been back to DC in years, and it really looks great. Better than ever. I think the thing I love most about DC is the scale of its old residential neighborhoods. High quality all around.
