Observation Deck Aerials

I got married on October 9, to a girl who shares many of my urbanist
geek qualities. From October 19 through 31 we went on our honeymoon
to the Pacific Northwest, stopping in Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver.
We choose the Northwest because it was the last major region of
the country that neither of us had yet visited.

I took thousands of pictures. It's taking me a long time to go through
them, but last night I finished the Seattle pictures. And so, I'll begin
to share them.

I'll post four sets of pictures from Seattle. This first post will cover the
views from the Space Needle and the Columbia Tower observation deck.
The other three will focus on downtown, the neighborhoods, and transit.

For the full flickr set of all observation deck pictures, GO HERE. There
are a lot more than I'm posting here.

Let's start at the observation deck atop Columbia Tower. At $5
admission and no waiting it's a much better deal than the Space Needle.
It's taller, but the view is not quite 360 degrees, so that's the trade-off.

First, some panoramas. Scroll ---->

Non-pans:

Seattle has more older buildings than I expected.

So this is weird. The camera must have over-written two pictures on top
of each other. This is NOT photoshopped.

Next three are the International District.

West side of Lake Union:

Three big transit stations. From left to right: International District
subway station, Union Station, and King Street Station.

Go about halfway down the building and there's a Starbucks.

Now, the view from the Space Needle. Starting with panoramas in
every direction. Scroll ---->

The stadiums and the soon-to-be-removed Alaskan Way Viaduct.

Same picture, but zoomed in on the University District:

Not sure what neighborhoods these are:

Fantastic aerial photos, Cirrus!

Seattle is a very nice city, as we can see in your pictures. I like to see so many trees and so much grass in the streets.

Congratulations for you marriage and pictures, and greetings from Madrid, Spain!:tup:

Never knew about the Columbia Tower deck. I love your photos--great combo of macro views and close-in shots!

You're also lucky to have someone who shares your interest--I always have to bargain for a few more minutes to drive around another random downtown!

Still love the pictures.
