Thanks great pics.
FAEMA is now closed. After a bazillion years in business on the 'thriving' James North, it has been empty for about a year. |
Reg closed 3-16 Lounge. That Blue building never took off. The new Spallaci welfare housing building with it's vacant retail street front I think looked better as an old vacant building, anyone who voted for Martinus wasted their vote, the Connaught .. well is the ultimate metaphor of Hamilton's current state, the Sandbar is now a monument to government action seizing buildings/assets of criminal behaviour.... 6 years ago they siezed the property and sits on King like a sandbagofshit vacant boarded up.? I guess the buyers aren't lined up to buy a sandbagofshit on King St in Hamilton.... sorry. If I had $20 and they gave it to me for free I still wouldn't buy it.
at least RockNTees is still there and Waxmans Deli is cool. And you can dream dream all you want about Acclamations ever ever being built. They love their new illegal parking lot. It helps their restaurant business. I wonder why? Do people actually drive vehicles and need places to park them? It's such a strange concept. |
Faema was open during the last Supercrawl a month ago for coffee business and with several grinders and makers in stock to sell... was that a one-time thing? I've seen it open in the past but I don't recall going by recently... I'm genuinely curious here.

Faema is open - I bought a coffee maker there.
Now, I don't wanna sound too negative about my visit to Hamilton. I was really impressed with Locke St and Dundas is looking really good these days. By the way, I don't recall this being mentioned but a little birdy told me that Starbucks will be setting up shop on King in Dundas. 'Mike's Subs' will be demo'd and it will be built on that property. A local cafe owner told me, so it's a pretty reliable source. Oh, and i spent tonnes of time at that new cafe on James N and that diner just up from there [can't remember the name]. Both are great additions to the street. If I were to ever move back to the Hammer, I'd buy something adjacent to James N for sure. |
Harbour Diner - took some out-of-town guests for their first breakfast there today. It's my standard "welcome to Hamilton" place to bring people :) Good stuff, eh?
I'm glad Faema's still open (Paul Wilson also mentioned it as a still-open business in his article on James North he just wrote a day or two ago). |
The Leon's Furs building got sold relatively recently. A friend and I took a look at it. The top floors were passable for apartments, but the main floor and the basement were like a timewarp.

Great to see some recent pics, it's been over a year since I've set foot in the Hammer. Thanks for the update, and nice shots.
