My DC neighborhood in the snow
 

It's been a pretty snowy winter so far in DC. We got another storm last night, so I stepped outside for a few minutes to snap some pictures. This is in the Dupont Circle neighborhood, a few blocks from the circle itself.









I live in an apartment in this building.

I know this is off topic, but do you know of any good DC neighborhood maps? For instance, I've found this one, but then if you look at this one, you'll see it identifies a smaller section of a neighborhood which is identified as the Mt. Vernon Triangle. Meanwhile, this map identifies the Golden Triangle, which comprises blocks that are included in two different neighborhoods on the first map. So I'm wondering if any maps exist that give even greater detail by showing all of these sub areas of overall neighborhoods? I would assume for example the Shaw neighborhood is split up into different districts and the Capital Hill neighborhood is also split into various districts? And are there any maps that highlight the main corridors for retail/restaurant/bars in each of these sub areas?

Golden Triangle and Mt Vernon Triangle are BIDs, not proper neighborhoods. Nobody in the city would ever say they live in the Golden Triangle, even if they live inside its boundaries.

That first map is the best one I know of, although as you mentioned it's not totally right. On the ground in the city, some neighborhoods are bigger and some are smaller.

Here are some things I'd change:

• Penn Quarter, Judiciary Square, Swampoodle, and the eastern half of Foggy Bottom should just be folded into one larger downtown.
• Capitol Hill could be split into subdistricts, but it could just as easily stay that size.
• "Shaw" is really only the southeastern corner of that area. Split it in three and call the southwestern part "Logan Circle" and the northern part "U Street".
• "Sheridan-Kalorama" and "Kalorama Triangle" don't exist. "Sheridan Circle" is the southern part of what on the map is "Sheridan-Kalorama". You could get away with calling the area right along Connecticut Avenue simply "Kalorama", but most people think of it as a nebulous zone between Dupont and Adams Morgan.
• "Atlas District" is beginning to catch on a little bit, but even so it's only the eastern part of that area. The whole area really ought to be called "H Street".
• "Southwest" is really only the northern 2/3 of that area. The southern part (the little peninsula) is "Buzzard Point".
• The area near the new baseball stadium where Southwest (Buzzard Point) and Navy Yard come together by the river is sort of searching for a new name. There have been lots of proposals, but so far none have solidly caught on.
• "American University Park" is really just more of Tenleytown.
• The southern third or so of Chevy Chase should be "Van Ness".
• Burleith is really just northern Georgetown.
• So-called Berkley, Kent, Spring Valley... all those neighborhoods west of Archibald Glover Park and south of Massachusetts Ave are just "Palisades" if you live anywhere else in the city.
• McLean gardens is just more of Cathedral Heights.

Of course, other people may disagree. It's all a little nebulous.

You know for a place that's supposed to be borderline "mild", DC sure gets kicked in the ass with blizzards a lot. This happened on my high school trip to the city in spring 2003. Brown snow piles everywhere.

Pretty! I was gonna take photos of my neighborhood in Capitol Hill the next morning, but I forgot my camera. Ha.

Great photos but I haven't been out on my bike in nearly three months. I'm ready for spring. During the Great Blizzard of 2009, I snow-shoed from Glover Park to the Cathedral.

Saw on the weather channel tonight that DC is gonna get hammered by snow tomorrow and saturday. Maybe we can get some more pics? :)
