2009 City of Hamilton Urban Design & Architecture Awards
 

"Residents, businesses and the design and development community are invited to cast their vote for who they think should win this year’s People’s Choice Award for the City of Hamilton’s 2009 Urban Design and Architecture Awards. This year’s 33 contenders range from small projects such as a porch renovation to larger projects such as a commercial power centre. Voting will be available from Friday October 23rd to Friday November 6th and the winner will be announced on November 25th at the Hamilton Convention Centre, during the Council meeting, and presented with their award."

The awards were announced last night. The complete list of awards and recipients included:

• Ancaster Carriage Works for Award of Excellence Contextual Architecture
• Dundas Driving Park for Award of Excellence Healthy Communities
• Heritage Greene for Award of Excellence Community Design
• The Gown and Gavel for Award of Excellence Urban Design
• Ottawa Street Business Improvement Area (BIA) Gateways for Award of Merit Streetscaping
• Prince of Wales Elementary School for Award of Merit Urban Design
• McMaster Engineering Technology Building for Award of Excellence Architectural Design
• McMaster Innovation Park for Award of Excellence Overall Design and Adaptive Use
• STARTT Institute for Award of Merit Architectural Design
• West Village Suites for Award of Excellence Sustainable Design

The Gore Building and Terraces on King both received Honourable Mentions. The People's Choice Award was announced as Heritage Greene, with the official Award presentation to take place at the November 25 Council Meeting.

Heritage Greene did do a good job. It's WAY WAY better than Centre Mall. Plus Effort Trust co-owns the land, or maybe owns the entire project? So there's a local connection and passion to not mess it up.

What is Heritage Greene? Sounds like a suburb survey
