My Best Shot

As I've had some time to think about it, here's mine:

Actually it took me less than 2 seconds to think this is my best shot. Took this back 2004 in at the fish market in Santiago Chile. Took it with a point and shoot. Walking by, stopped, switched to B&W mode and took the picture and walked on. No flash, no processing, nothing, nothing has been done to this photo. Not that it couldn't use some processing.

The lack of processing isn't what makes this shot my best shot, it just reinforces the fact that there was a picture begging to be taken.

Side note, this was during the 2004 Summer Olympics. Chile had their first ever chance at a gold medal. Men's Doubles, I think. The city was going nuts.

Anyways, in the center of the fish market there's kind of food court. I got there for lunch and ended up getting caught in the moment, I ended up drinking pisco sours with a Peruvian Mariachi band and stayed until there until the wee hours of the morning. Walked my drunk ass back to the hotel.

Almost couldn't find the market the next day.

Sunset in Antarctica (at Port Lockroy) on my birthday no less in 2008.

After dinner a few of us were hanging around the small bar in the ship having some birthday drinks, when the intercom system comes to life and it is our expedition leader saying that if we are not out on the deck with our cameras we are missing an amazing sunset.

So we all scrambled out on deck and were treated to such a beautiful site. My little Canon Powershot really kicked ass on that trip!

I hard a hard time deciding, but being a skyscraper geek I went with a skyline shot.

Not a great shot technically, but I could stare at the view all day long. This was taken from my point and shoot without a tripod. I'm really kicking myself for not a having a tripod that evening.

I will throw in what I think is my best and fav pic I have taken. This was taken by myself at the Muhammad Ali Mosque in Cairo, Egypt in June 2006 using a Canon Powershot S80.

Took this photo while on Moreton Island in Australia, just off the coast near Brisbane. It was a spectacular sunset, and I managed to luck out and catch a dolphin swimming past in the water. It was taken with my hand held Olymopus 1030 SW.

PS: Jimby, now every continent is represented ;)

It is of my daughter at the lake this summer. I just clicked at the right moment to get the motion and the great look on her face.

She looks like she's preparing for very cold water.

Well if you consider 25°C water cold :)

I'm no professional photographer, nor do I have the greatest camera/equipment in the world. In fact the pictures I'm submitting for your scrutiny were both taken using my cell phone's camera.

Where's your lake?

Here is one of my favs. Taken on a fine summer's morning on Kootenay Lake waiting to be picked up to go fishing. The picture captured the moment quite faithfully. Taken with a crappy by today's standard G2 - and I can see the lens flare, but it's still a great shot.

I put all my favorites I've taken here.

I had an amazing opportunity for a picture today, but unfourtunately my Nikon D60 was stolen earlier this summer and I'm hesitant to take another $650 plunge for a while. The sky was setting and it was all red this evening and I was driving west on 17th from the NE at the top of the hill. It was very scenic. Too bad some asshole in Tennessee likely has my camera.

Around the world and back. I knew we'd be seeing seeing some awesome shots here.

I like how more than half seem to be have taken on a simple point and shoot. Just reinforces what someone said on the DSLR form, about it not being the camera, but what's behind the camera; or something to that effect.
