^ Agreed. The tighter the grid of streets and pedestrian connections, the more vibrant the public realm. Bring on the creation (cf conversion) of REAL pedestrian streets!

This is the kind of thing that is needed for the health of downtown. The parking should be buried under these mid block pedestrian malls, and they should have small store fronts, and apartment entrances onto them. This would make car free travel between the major east/west streets of Dundas through York easy, and enjoyable. In the end the road network remains intact, and downtown becomes more holistic, and not just focused on Dundas street.

On another note in the long run Riverside road should be linked to King st. through a tunnel the Peace Garden. With one way bridges in, and out of downtown, Dundas can become a transit way, or counter flow lanes.

I love the idea of keeping these mid-block connections and reinforcing them with retail and public space. I live directly across from the Dundas opening and cut through these parking lots on almost a daily basis. Whether it's to get to the King Street bike lane, Citi Plaza, a friend's house in Old South, etc. Sometimes it's just nice to take a different route to the same place, or avoid some hustle and bustle at DnR.

Very cool concept. It definitely beats filling that gap with a store and a corridor to some apartment tower's lobby.

What's with Londoner's and banannas.....

You guys are lucky to have your train station located basically in the core. Something I wish Windsor had because our train station is tucked behind a Liquor factory 3 or 4 kilometers from the core.

Our city can look to yours for inspiration, I like London. ><
