Hamilton's population to decrease by three

After six fine years in the Hammer, I have accepted a position in Ottawa. My family and I will be moving in April. We will dearly miss Hamilton and will have nothing but good to say about the city.

All the best

Maybe once I'm gone construction will pick up.

You'll be missed!

LikeHamilton Mar 14, 2009 3:37 PM

NO!!!
Who’s going to take the best pictures of Hamilton ever!

We will all miss you. I personally have looked forward to your pictures. I know of at least one MPP would used your picture to show off the real Hamilton and all of its beauty.

Good luck it your future endeavours and come back soon. (With your camera)
:happysad:

When are you leaving Flar?

emge Mar 14, 2009 5:52 PM

I'm sorry to hear that, but all the best.

When I first moved here, I found this forum because I was looking for information on Stinson, my new neighbourhood. I found SSP because you had a photo tour on the Stinson neighbourhood as well as many others. They helped immeasurably in getting oriented to the city.

I also appreciated your levelheaded and informative contributions to the forum - both in general discussions, and the information you often have on buildings' history, styles and details.

I hope your move goes very well, and I'm sure we can expect a few Ottawa photo tours in the future - it's a very beautiful city in my opinion.

You'll be missed.

Your phototours sold Hamilton to me long before I ever visited the city.

astroblaster Mar 14, 2009 6:57 PM

i'll miss your internet presence, man. all the best.

FairHamilton Mar 14, 2009 7:50 PM

Congratulations Flar, you will be greatly missed. Ottawa's gain is definitely Hamilton's loss.

Deborah and I wish you and your family all the best.

Seconded.

This is really sad news. You're the sixth person I know of who's moving to Ottawa. Someone suggested to me that the 'cool' kids are now leaving Hamilton since it's been discovered, and Ottawa's the newest thing. Hope there's no truth to that.

Wish you and yours all the best. You will be greatly missed.

Thanks for the kind words.

I'll be here for another couple weeks, in the meantime, you all might enjoy this:

Good luck in Ottawa and thanks for your last Hamilton photothread. It has inspired me to try and get on the roof of my apartment building and take some shots.

Millstone Mar 16, 2009 4:41 AM

I too am moving. I had an open house today. Harry Stinson came by. What an odd fellow.

MsMe Mar 16, 2009 4:55 AM

Staying in the city though Millstone or moving elsewhere?

Niagara most likely

MsMe Mar 16, 2009 5:46 AM

You can move in with me Millstone and be my slave. :haha:

I'm glad you hit Landmark Place to go out with a bang. Those shots are amazing. Best of luck.

lol I might have to think about that.

It's come to my attention that everyone's friend Darko Vranich might have an easement on my (and many others') property. Does he own the buildings on James between Rebecca and Wilson?

hmagazine Mar 21, 2009 3:44 AM

I hope not!

Care to share a little more...

Not much more to share. I've heard that one of the walls of 11 Rebecca is over the property line of someone facing James. Most of the info I've got is second hand. My documentation doesn't spell out exactly who's got the easements, just that they're there.

Well, I'm officially an Ottawaian? Ottawan? Ottawite? now. Very sad to leave the old Hammer. I would have liked to stay but the job opportunity I have here was just too good to turn down. I'll get to experience a new city and maybe now and then I'll share some insights I gain from comparing Ottawa and Hamilton. Ottawa's transit system should be interesting, my bus route is along the transitway, a special road for buses with stations every now and then, with a frequency of 2-3 minutes in the daytime. So basically like a "metro" but only on wheels instead of rail.
