Old Hamilton photos on my site
Hi all
Wondering if I could get some help with my website. I've got lots of photos on my site, Hamilton Transit History. But for many of them I have no idea where or when they were taken. If you'd look them over and let me know if you recognize any locations, I'd really appreciate the help. Most of the pages that have unknown photos are: HSR streetcars HSR Trolley Buses HSR buses (older than 1985) Thanks again |

I noticed you posted this a while back. Do you still need help with identification of places with some of your photos? |

I was able to ID a lot of streetcar locations when McMaster University put their aerial photos online several weeks ago, but there are still a few trolley & bus photos that I don't know where they were taken. |

Which photos? Do you have a direct link to them so that I can take a look at them? Thanks:) |

I was just going over the photos and most seem to be labelled already with locations on them. How long have you been working on your web sites? |

The site has been up in one form or another since Oct 2001, but not continuously. As for images that are missing locations, there are a few: Trolley buses -several T48's -HSR 781 -HSR 7805 Buses -HSR 18 -HSR 70 -HSR 305 -HSR 7924 -HSR 7930 Streetcars -HSR 403 -HSR 416 -HSR 429 I think that's all of them :) |

* HSR 732 on Barton route location is: Barton & James * HSR 7805 on Barton route location is: Parkdale & Melvin * HSR 7924 on Upper James route location is: HSR Mountain garage * HSR 416 street car location is: looks like the Beach strip, Beach Boulevard. * HSR 429 street car location is: Herkimer street near Locke street |

I would never have thought of Herkimer for #429. (#416 is actually in Dundas, on Cootes just east of Thorpe. I found it last night in McMaster's online aerial photos from 1950.) |

HSR70 location
If i had to guess, it really looks like the bus was heading west on King just before it crosses main at the Delta, where the little park is. The car in the left of photo would be parked facing ease on the south side of Main St.

However, you could still be right. The old Bartonville streetcar line ran along King from Main to Cochrane, and the tracks could have been left in place after the line was converted to buses in 1929. And if roadwork on Main near Balmoral resulted in rerouting the buses, running them Main-King-Balmoral would make the most sense. I just don't know. |
bus 781
firstly.... yeah hard to say about hsr 70.... i was also basing the photo on the telephone pole with the transformer on it.... there was (is) still a hydro pole line on the south side of main and it sort of looked familiar.
anyhow after viewing 781... my guess would be the bus is on Melvin Ave heading east approaching Parkdale.... if anyone recognizes the home behind it would be a help eh! |
I dont know where any of those are but I really loved looking at those old photos.
thanks for the time that you have out into your website |
Hsr305
