i seen it yesterday..but i was on a bus...it was something for Ontario Tourism pretty sure...

yea, it's pretty huge. I saw it yesterday too. I wish we had a real winterfest here like in Ottawa - ice skating, ice sculpture, concerts etc...
I know there's a kickoff of some sort today downtown but the entire winterfest event is a little lame still.
of course, a skating rink in the Gore and at city hall would help provide more logical places to hold winterfest events.

the roof of jackson square would be perfect to build an outdoor rink.

London has 2, both in downtown, and they are always filled with skaters. Quite an awesome thing to do at night with snow lightly falling.

If you put a skating rink at the rooftop no one would notice it. Odds are we'll have a skating rink the downtown around 2010 or 2011 once City Hall finished renovation.

that was the kickoff to winterfest? ouch. i passed through the gore today around 2pm and there was music playing and some dude sawing a log. that was pretty much it. jackson sq and the market were busy, though.

ottawa's so well suited to winter-time activities with the canal, byward market and whatnot. it's a good model to aspire to.

notice it..all you got to do is publicize the fact it is there, and you should generate interest...getting stairs to downstairs to the tim hortons in there, make it skate accessible would be awesome as well...haha..oh i'm dreaming, but that would be neat.

i'd go for sure.

Saw that thing on my way to get the bus to Toronto this morning. Couldn't figure out what it was for though. Kinda sad as well cause nobody was really paying attention to it or the band playing.

who would even know anything was going on?? they do such a crappy job at promoting things downtown. I live down here and had no clue what was going on until that little bit in the Spec.

apathy...didn't stinson make a comment to the effect that hamilton has the appearance of a city that doesn't care? he's not far off. it starts at the top and our councillors, by and large, don't care about this city. it's infectious.

you've got that right. my excuse for not attending things in this city is 80% because I just don't know about them. You have to be an urbanist and watch for these things on raisethehammer or other internet sites to actually know.

Ya! The spec does a Crappie job of doing anything about Hamilton.

Friday morning opposition leader Dion was in Hamilton speaking at a BEO/Chamber function. They presented him with a Bulldogs jersey. He said he new about the Bulldogs and it was his second favorite team after the Canadiens. The Spec had a small article about him on page A17 with no picture. The Globe and Mail had a large article about him in Hamilton and a large picture of him holding up a Hamilton Bulldogs jersey on page A4.

As Dion would say the Spec has different priorities haha. Would have been a perfect opporunity for the Spec to do an interview with Dion on local issues but nope.

I like Dion's view and policies but his English is such a barrier. At least with Chretien you knew what he was saying. Di Ianni will probably win as MP for Hamilton East - Stoney Creek riding as a Liberal.

^^ When Chrétien first started, NO ONE could understand him: french, english, bilinguals. hahaha But over the years his accent got better.

Dion's problem is that he's too weak. He lacks in leadership. He's VERY VERY smart, and a great environmentalist... but he lacks the leadership needed to get Canadians on his side. Stephen Harper will tear him apart at a debate.

As for the Spec, no shocker. Who cares if the leader of the opposition to our federal gov't is in town annoucing (a proposed) $1billion for green innititives. This is Hamilton... I wanna know what's up w/ that snowglobe instead! hahahaha

i wouldn't call him weak. the conservatives do but i don't really know what that means. he certainly lacks charisma which is what wins elections, by and large.

his election, fluke that it was, has all but killed the liberals chance of forming a government next time...whenever that may be.

i would also say that he's a 'faux' environmentalist. the difference between the conservatives and liberals is the way they speak. the liberals pretend to be environmentalists and socialists; the conservatives don't bother pretending. in the end, they're the same party.
