A new mixed-use development is going up north of Camp Strake and south of Conroe. A site plan is shown on HBJ but I can't find a render to post here:

Here's a development I do have a picture for - a new development in Kingwood:

800 Bell (former Exxon building) to be "reconstructed, not renovated"... (apologies if this has been posted before).
http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/b...n.html?ana=twt |
You say "reconstruction", I say "potato". I'm not sure the new building is going to be the icon the old building was, even if it is bigger. But maybe the investment will be worth it. It still makes me want to get my old wood-veneer stereo speakers out of the attic, just to see if they make an architectural statement.
|
The renovation of the Exxon Building is going to be a big loss for mid century modern architecture and now it will just look like another generic shiny glass building.
|
Meanwhile...
All the enthusiasm for planting new structures on existing surface parking lots has led CBRE to worry whether there will be any parking left downtown. Oh, the irony: New downtown Houston garages will make surface parking even worse Then again, some see parking as an opportunity for creative expression. The Menil, for example... Parking lots can be pleasant? http://ww1.hdnux.com/photos/32/47/34...3/784x2048.jpg |
Designed to address Buffalo Bayou’s development, UH College of Architecture students aim to reinvent Houston’s river with their award-winning proposal, RISKY HABIT[AT] : DYNAMIC LIVING ON THE BUFFALO BAYOU. The project was displayed at this year’s Venice Architecture Biennale.

Hanover Upper Kirby: It looks like Hanover is planning more than one high-rise for the Kirby area, the other that we already know about is Hanover River Oaks.

If there are any concerns about a bubble, they may be dispelled in part by the latest figures from the Texas Workforce Commission's LMCI database, which shows Houston has added 119,000 jobs in a year (after 83,000 last year and 106,000 the year before). Undoubtedly, construction hiring has helped those numbers, but it's still over 300,000 additional jobs in 3 years.

Sam Houston State University (where everything is uphill - even back to the car) is considering building a medical school in the former Camp Strake. No details yet, other than the size of the site - 10 acres.
University reportedly eyes Camp Strake site for proposed medical school Meanwhile, Baylor College of Medicine and CHI St. Luke's have opened the McNair Campus on O.S.T., with plans for future expansion that call for at least one patient tower and one medical office building. No architect yet, so no renders. Exclusive: First look at the Baylor College of Medicine McNair Campus |

But that's cool about the med campus... shame about Camp Strake though. I think the scouts also go to the Sam Houston state forest more often than not though. |

Meanwhile, a new oil and gas company, based in Houston, was minted today. Shell Midstream Partners is not really a new company, having been created from assets of Royal Dutch Shell on the US Gulf Coast. Probably they will continue to lease real estate that their parent company already leases in Houston.
And BP will be joining them shortly. UPDATE 1-Shell Midstream Partners expects IPO to be priced at $19-$21/unit Houston might be diversifying, according to leasing trends: Corporate relocation activity shows slight diversification from energy http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/...Y-INDUSTRY.jpg |

That's a nifty rendering, but if I'm not mistaken, I see the Old City Hall in one of those shots. I'm just concerned this might be what the IT geeks call "vaporware". The news article this was taken from seemed more focused on the EB-5 program than on the projects it will build - usually a sign of speculation.

That isn't City Hall unless City Hall has moved 30 miles to the North. |
The backgrounds are Photoshopped behind the rendering. None of them can actually be found in the Woodlands.
But I like the concept. SOMETHING needs to be built that looks like that. |
