ADELAIDE South Australia

Adelaide is the capital of South Australia and has a metropolitan area population of approximately 1.2m.

Unfortunately for Adelaide it has been held back from building very tall buildings due to a combination of height restrictions imposed by the City Council and the bodies in control of airspace requirements.

At present the tallest building is the Westpac tower at 135m.

Here is a couple of buildings on the drawing board

Spire Living - 107m - 37lvl

I think Adelaide is an underrated city.
Sad about the height restrictions, they hurt most cities.

hopefully amidst all these financial meltdown the projects above will complete as scheduled. not really concerned if the first two gets constructed. we reall need need a tower like 31lvl to really liven up the city's boring artchitecture.

i dont think adelaide is an underrated city. it's just a best kept secret in australia, mate!

The wonderful 22 Currie St project has been cancelled, It was to be Adelaides 2nd tallest.

Alas it is no more.

Here in Vancouver, the height restrictions downtown have really cramped our style in a number of instances.

hopefully one day, they'll lift the height restrictions and Adelaide can catch up to melbourne, brisbane and perth.

(sydney also has height restrictions, 275m)

I don't think all cities have to have high skylines to be interesting. I've seen places that I thought looked good, that had nothing taller than around 30 stories, give or take, if that.
It's how it all looks as old and new are put together.

Adelaide, San Diego feels your pain

San Diego also labors under downtown height restrictions because of the nearby airport. 500 feet (about 175 meters?). I find Adelaide's plan interesting, the way the downtown area is almost surrounded by parkland like an island. The climate is also somewhat similar to San Diego, with a winter rainy season and fairly mild temps year round. "Mate" cities in many ways. Stay classy Adelaide, and your mate city San Diego will try too also :-)
