Oh my GAD it's been a while since I last checked up on this city and boy did I miss a lot! Beautiful work as always, I would love to hear about that glassy tower in that last shot, which is magnificent btw, best render yet! Your textures are super high resolution they fit right in with the more detailed buildings.

Its a lot of extra work yes. But its tempting, may have to wait a while before I can get to that stage.

Thanks Patrick, thats 74 Somerset. Not my fav.

Gradually adding more buildings to the north. The De'Ranged Hotel is a 106m high 1930's Hotel at the corner of Gloucester and 6th.
This junction will also contain one corner of the cities downtown park, yet to be fully planned, modelled or even named.

I use C4D's own built in renderer.

how fast is it? How long are you taking to render each image?

Its a massive improvement on what it used to be. Some renders of cities past literally took 48 hours. The new render engine in C4D is much quicker. An average scene takes maybe 1-2 hours.

Canning Plaza - 2 towers of 130m (426ft) & 91m (298ft) sitting around a sunken public square and sculpture. Built in the mid 80's and clad in Italian Red Marble,
was one of the most obvious developments during this decade and became a classic example of opulent, extravagant architecture.
Today the slightly dated exterior still gives off a wealthy, corporate feel, even if architecturally it has been eclipsed by more interesting developments.

I was quite happy with how Canning Plaza came out modelling-wise, and was part inspired by a building in London on Victoria Street (only
Londoners may know of this building). My one error was the coloumns, which look far to thin and have since been fattened.

Amazing city!!

Vellu Mar 1, 2014 7:50 PM

Great shots, as always! The De'Ranged Hotel fits the city great and it pairs really well with the Parriot Hotel. The city feels especially alive in the second to last shot: the solitary horizontal I-beam on that demolished / unfinished structure is a great example of the little details that makes this city feel so real.

That sunken plaza looks interesting, I'd like to see more of it.

I will post more shots of the sunken plaza in due course. The details as you mention are what can make a difference, although as I expand beyond these immediate blocks the details will be getting less and less. I want to try and make these blocks quicker, which means less details and more textures.

Great view, wonderfully dense! I didn't realize how tall the Parriot Hotel is until I saw that shot. That smoke/steam is a nice detail, and very well done.

I like the contrast between the older and newer hotels as Vellu mentioned. I am looking forward to the park next to these hotels.

I get a Philly vibe in the last picture.

Yo bitches!....Wats sup? Sorry about that, momentary lapse...Yeah I'm back in part. Its been a while, but
I have made tentative progress over the past few weeks and thought I'd post some render updates on the city.

92 Wiltshire Avenue, or more well known as the SpilOil Building was completed in 1971 and reaches a height of 210m (689ft).
It is currently the tallest building in the city. Inspired by NYC's Citibank or as I still know it the Citicorp Center, the similarity
extends to the horizontal window bands right down to the raised base supported on large legs. The Blitz Bar at the base, frequented by local
celebs, is a popular spot in the evenings.

Pyngiao, maybe I already asked you, but are these cars 3d or are they photos you added in post production? Where did you find them? I might be interested in buying/downloading them. I like them a lot.

Trantor Jul 23, 2014 5:55 PM

btw Pyngiao, do you sell your skyscraper models anywhere? They seem to be detailed enough and low-poly enough to be great to be used on many scenes, where modellers may not be wanting to fill their scenes with bad quality buildings, nor with ultra-high detailed buildings that will clog computing power even though they will never be shown in detail.

Pingyao Jul 24, 2014 2:26 PM

Hi Trantor. In answer to your questions - cars http://www.dmi-3d.net/

No I don't sell the models. I would need to tidy them up a bit, textures may not be allowed to be sold either as they are restricted for personal use not professional.

Trantor Jul 24, 2014 5:58 PM

good site, too bad they are 99% in Lightwave format...

Your city is so awesome!

Vellu Aug 2, 2014 7:04 PM

The public square looks very inviting. It's not hard for me to imagine myself just sitting there on a bench and relaxing while looking all the interesting buildings around me.

The SpilOil Building integrates quite well with the city at the street level and makes a nice pair with the Canning Plaza.

I love seeing your work. Keep sharing it with us! The people at street level, and other details which you add in post production are absolutely fantastic.
