Who knows though. Look at Amazon with Rufus 2.0. That would be a dream come true if something like that happened.

The Union Trib has an article on East Villages future. A really good read. It mentions that the first building for Makers Quarter will be announced in the next few weeks. Also they mention a possible downtown campus for Qualcomm as we were just talking about. The progress in East Village is going to be amazing to watch!

I do like their concept for the above-ground garage. Looks much better than most. Too bad about loosing the previous concept tho.

^^ I can kinda see where they're going with it...maybe the building's other sides will look better. :)

I did, it was pretty cool. I thought there would be more grass, a lot of the park is dirt, but all in all, San Diego did a great job!!!

Can't believe how fast they're erecting steel for this project. It went from nothing, to the fourth floor in about 10 days. No tower crane yet, but hoist is installed.

Wow! Irvine isn't messing around with that one. It'll be done pretty quick too. I'm pretty sure occupancy is supposed to be Q1 2016.

SDfan May 13, 2014 11:21 PM

Holy Irvine!

Here's an article on some new buildings at the Centrum site in Kearney Mesa. There is a lawsuit over changes to the plan, but both renderings have similar heights. In addition to these buildings, I expect the 2nd office tower will get but here at some point as well. Overall great news for that area.

Those buildings look nice. It'll add some good density to Kearny Mesa.

Wow! Looks great for Kearny Mesa.

Anybody have any idea who Cory Briggs is and what he really stands for? Seriously, what's his deal? More importantly, who's paying his salary/fees?

It seems like any big project (Convention Center expansion, Navy Broadway Complex, etc.) stalled with litigation has his name all over it, and I refuse to believe that he's representing the insterests of "the people" like he's got some altruistic agenda. The conspiracy theorist in me says that someone's using him to stall all these projects while they move their chess pieces around behind the curtain. But who's behind the curtain? Who's paying him to file these lawsuits? Manchester? Spanos? More big money from south of the border?

I don't get it, and it's frustrating to no end. Maybe he's right, and I'm just biased because I love big development projects, but it sure seems like there's an ulterior motive behind these lawsuits...I just can't figure out what it is.

tyleraf May 14, 2014 7:31 PM

Cory Briggs is an extremely arrogant attorney that tries to stop any progress in the city. He usually sues on behalf of the Navy Broadway Complex Coalition, which is a group of NIMBYS that are anti-growth.

nezbn22 May 14, 2014 9:41 PM

But who are the NIMBYs running this coalition? It's one thing to show up at a community meeting or on a website message board to voice your hatred of every project that threatens to upset your perfect little world. But hiring an attorney and suing the likes of City Hall and Papa Doug Manchester himself? That's a lot of time and money devoted to making sure something doesn't happen or, at minimum, significantly delaying its development.

This is probably just hopeless venting on my part, but I feel like something doesn't really add up here. For example, what if the Spanos hired Briggs to sue everything in sight to hold the city hostage and use the threat of never-ending legal fees as leverage to gain more stadium concessions? Or maybe someone like Azano is trying to wear everyone out to the point they'll walk away and cede control of the land? And what about the fact that the UT never mentions a word about the Navy Broadway Complex? Is Doug suing himself to delay the project because he doesn't have tenants lined up to fill his office buildings, and he doesn't want the embarrassment of building a bunch of empty buildings? Or maybe Nat Bosa is trying to gain control over some aspects of the NBC's design/layout so it doesn't ruin the view of his planned signature Parcel 9 tower?

Sorry for hijacking the board with my conspiracy-laden rant. As you can see, all these Cory Briggs lawsuits drive me freaking nuts.

You're right about this guy. His name is all over every lawsuit aimed at stopping the progression of these projects. I would love to see groups like this lose enough lawsuits that they stop filing them. Coastal Commission got shut down on the NBC project which was a step in the right direction.

The new park does look good but what is up with all the dirt? They are probably going to fill it in with grass eventually I will complain about it lol.

Questions about OAP: Why doesn't Irvine Co who has billions and owned the landmark tower for over a year now put a nicely lit crown lighting scheme on the top of the building. The lights on top are super dim and many nights aren't even on. Was at Crown Point last night at 10:45 looking at downtown and it was completely dark. You would think they would want to represent the tower well as they are a very professional corporation.

tyleraf May 16, 2014 12:38 AM

I don't know. I would love to see brighter lights atop it as well. I've always wondered why they don't light symphony towers at night as well. Hopefully with the new lights on One Columbia Place Irvine will do something to spruce up their buildings.

HurricaneHugo May 17, 2014 4:48 AM

Would love to have Harbor Club lit up too, though I guess since it's a condo they really can't...maybe just an outline?
