Your city's best angle?

From which angle does your city's skyline look the best? Post a pic if you got it.

For Ottawa there's not much of a choice. Our skyline sucks from all directions, but downtown looks the best coming in from the North on Autoroute 5, just out of the Gatineau hills..

..or up close, it's best viewed at a vantage point just west of downtown, looking East..

Now show us yours.

^ I agree, 1ajs. There are people I know in Winnipeg that didn't even know about that view, and once I showed them, they were sincerely impressed!

1ajs Oct 12, 2008 8:24 PM

people like only_the_lonly get to injoy the view on the way to work :P and thus that bridge will be shut down soon for replacement and a ped bridge will be going up beside it lol

and i live just a couple blocks over from that view :P

Views from the southeast are best for Halifax. There are lots of good views from Dartmouth, Eastern Passage, the islands, or if you're on ships. When you are actually walking around the city normally you don't see much of it at once because of the hills.

Here is one view from George's Island, by Antonkolbo on Flickr (can't find any panoramas unfortunately):

View from Eastern Passage, by Nancy Rose on Flickr:

The best vantage point that is easy to get to is the Woodside ferry terminal (taken by me a couple of years ago, scroll ---->):

For Vancouver my favourite skyline views are along various beaches west of the downtown:

The view from the disraeli bridge is nice, but I also like these ones:http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/8...nlightsoj3.jpghttp://img360.imageshack.us/img360/8...lights2og5.jpghttp://img84.imageshack.us/img84/471...etowersxo3.jpg
I believe they were taken from the evergreen towers or 55 Nassau. This angle makes downtown Winnipeg look really dense.
Also, I take no credit for these pictures It was posted on the forum quite some months ago, and I forget who put them up. The credit goes to them. If you know who it was, please let me know. I really like these shots. Just thought I'd share them.

This is my hometown and the city I live again !

Rimouski from the dock.
Twins towers of 12 floors are proposed in front of the yellow tower.

Trueviking posted a great picture of Winnipeg's skyline from the south.

It shows off the size off Winnipeg's downtown.

Here's a nicer panorama of Halifax I just put together from photos taken in August. Unfortunately, it's not very clear because I was too lazy/jetlagged to get out there early enough for good light:

Those were from WPGGUY .... and can also be seen on www.allwinnipeg.com

I like the top one the most, because you can see my old apartment.

Calgary - from the North or slightly to the NW (basically anywhere from Crescent Heights). Runners up - Edworthy Park and from Around Rideau.

my least favourite is directly to the west (like from around the Bow-Crow area) or actually from Scotchman's hill, although that view is improving quite a bit now.

Toronto - from Casa Loma - runner up from across the Don Valley.

My favourite angle for Toronto is from the CN tower

^Calgary looks pretty damn intense from that angle.

Love that first Toronto shot, shit Toronto's HUGE.:psycho:

Vancouver
From the Northwest (Coal Harbour):

From the South (QE Park)

From Southwest:

From the East:

(credits mine)
There are good views from almost every direction, but the most famous ones are from buildings to the south, or from Coal Harbour. One of the best views is from the North Shore which is more difficult to photograph well.

Boreal Oct 13, 2008 5:16 AM

Nice Winnipeg shots - but I still like the angle from St.Boniface, just due east of the Esplanade Riel. It will be even improve exponentially once the CMHR gets built. Unfortunately, I don't have an adequate photo.

Outstanding views of Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary.
