^^^ Sounds like Vancouver is rumoured to be the first city in North America to have a direct flight to Shenzen. By next year YVR will be directly connected to 9 out of China's 10 largest cities! The YVR thread has all the details sorry I don't know how to post a thread from there to here.

Back in the day, Regina would have two/three AC DC-8-61s/day to YYZ. Anyhow, those DC-8s would shake the southern 1/3 of Regina on the threshold during throttle-up facing towards the northwest. (About a 3.8 on the Richter Scale, direct line-of-sight, 1.25 miles away from our house.) Moreover, one could EASILY hear F-27s start/taxi/ground ops when it was -35 across built-up areas 2-3 miles away! ( . . maybe even farther over open fields.) Of course, during the summer, things weren't as loud. The grandaddy was when an Air France Concorde came here in May '87; now, THAT was loud! |
You guys don't know the definition of loud unless you've been near an old RCAF Argus anti submarine aircraft on approach or take-off. :frog:
They used to have a squadron stationed at CFB Summerside PEI when I was growing up. They would occasionally practice touch and go landings at the Charlottetown Airport, and on approach would fly over the downtown at several hundred feet in altitude. Those engines produced a deep mighty roar that shook windows in their frames and you could actually feel the vibration in your chest as they flew overhead. It's one of the unforgettable memories of my childhood. http://www.415sqn.com/aircraft/Argus/argusS.jpg |

Tunisair will start flying to YUL starting Spring 2016, according to the airline's North American GM.

This is a list of essentially Heavies (and 757s) that regularly fly into Toronto Pearson. I've included a couple of Mediums as well just as an indication of the foreign carrier, whilst excluding anything from the US airlines. I've not attempted to match each aircraft to their destinations, or frequencies, as there are too many variables. I've included Transaero as they were flying in until very recently.

Yes it would be very difficult to nail the frequencies because of, like you say, the variables of seasonal changes. Maybe just pick a week in peak summer, say early August, and see what you come up with! If you accept this mission..... I wouldn't know where to start. I reckon Air Canada and rouge would be hard enough... LOL |
Resource based traffic
With the slowdown in the resources industry I've noticed a lot of pull back on flights to the North. I don't follow Central or Eastern Canada that much but in Western Canada clearly putting a damper on air traffic.
Examples are Canadian North flying fewer frequencies, First Air has transferred flights to the smaller Avro jets flown by Summit Air, Westjet reduced frequencies to both YZF and YXY and now the latest Air North cutting flights in some cases 50%. Even little CMA has reduced some flights to the North. As we have seen YMM in particular is just getting smashed with huge declines in traffic. I'd be surprised if AC maintains three daily and WS maintains its daily flight to YMM from YVR next summer. So is the same thing happening between Central Canada and the North? |

Ottawa has a daily flight to Iqualuit. That's pretty much all we have in terms of flights to the North. |
There is also an Air North Flight from Ottawa to Whitehorse, stopping in Yellowknife, two times per week.

Just flew back from Beijing Monday PEK-YVR-YYZ. Boeing 773 and the flight was packed, even if the service on Air China leaves a bit to be desired. |
I've been wondering when they would be pushing ahead with their plans from years ago for the next phase of expansion.
I'm guessing this expansion is the one shown in Klazu's photo below. Quote:

Thanks for the heads up re Air China... We are doing the MEL-PEK-YVR-PEK-MEL route over Xmas with decent layovers in both directions. Been 5 years since I've been on CA but willing to give it another go! Only doing it because they have added MEL-PEK non stop. All flights to PEK used to stop in PVG and that added quite a few hours to the total journey. Given up flying AC since they have added the metal requirement and being downunder makes that almost impossible to obtain now so NZ is my preferred carrier and having recently flown UA nonstop MEL-LAX I would do that again over AC SYD-YVR. Let me just check my vital signs... Yup I'm normal! LOL ****** Thanks for the feedback re: Central Canada - North. Are these routes growing, maintaining or shrinking.....like I was saying they are definitely shrinking out West. |
