NEW YORK | One Liberty Plaza | 743 FT / 226M | 54 FLOORS| 1973

One of my favourite NY skyscrapers. Has an awesome steel facade and cool imposing presense. It's currently undergoing exterior restorations.

One of my favorites too, it looks like it was meant to kick ass and take names!

Beautiful and sleek building. Stands out in the Lower Manhattan skyline. The only thing that bugs me about this complex is the plaza. Looks old and uninviting.

Also has anyone seen the totally uninviting subway staircase near century 21? The place looks like an alleyway and from my experience a few years ago, not one person came out from that entrance.

This black blob is ugly and depressing as sin. It's window pattern is ugly and it's proportions are way too brutal and overbearing. Really glad 4 WTC is blocking it from the west now, so that downtown can be spared of this blight on the skyline.

Oh yeah, and the fact that it replaced the Singer Building/City Investing Building sucks too.

In my opinion, Singer was hideous. The only skyscraper from those days I truly dislike. The colour was an ugly maroon, the proportions were odd, and the shape was overall awkward and top heavy. But as I can have my opinion, you can have yours.

It's a nice, solid building. I don't mind it on the skyline at all.

Huh, that's a rather unusual opinion, whatever, kind of hard to comment on it as you know, it ain't around anymore.

Though it's still truly a shame we lost one of the most important and unique buildings in skyscraper history...for this thing which could be virtually anywhere, whether or not one likes it or not it was quite a loss.

I also find it funny that all the reasons you state as to why you hate it is exactly why I love it. The shape was really unique, nothing quite like it on the skyline. The materials were very different, the brick and bluestone gave it this unique color etc.

I can agree about the proportions though, but I guess that was all they could do in those days when they were restricted to preserving the old Singer Building.

The cool thing about this building was that it was built by US Steel and was meant to showcase the I-Beam which is why it has such a distinct skeletal facade.
