The Catskills are a little over an hour northwest, the Adirondacks are about 4-5 hours north. The Appalachian range is within easy driving distance. And there's hilly terrain as soon as you hit the suburbs to the north.

Cool pic. I think I recognize the higher mountain to the left as Mount Marcy and the one on the right (closer) as Algonquin Mountain in the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks.

Some of those remind me of the hills around L.A. and Frisco. I admit that I was ignorant about N.Y. and Jersey having hills like that. Thanks for sharing these.

I believe this is Breakneck Ridge. I've done this hike before. You can actually take MetroNorth to the Appalachian Trail.

Isn't it Bear Mtn? I go up there every summer to escape the heat in The City!

I think for most people outside of the area, there is a surprising amount of natural resources around the city.

ESB looks especially massive from that distance.

These are my favorite kind of skyline pics, where you can just make out a city's silhouette from a distance. Do we have any threads dedicated to shots of this sort on the forum?
