Remember this from yesterday. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/1dPkR4.jpg I just found two other Pasadena slides that were probably taken by the same person who took the mystery fort-like water tower slide. All three are dated 1962 and are being sold by the same eBay seller. The newly found slides lend credence to the . .um. .that the location of the water tower is indeed Pasadena, California. "Pasadena, California, Castle Green Hotel and Cars in 1962, Kodachrome Slide" https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/h4LwuX.jpg eBay "Pasadena, California, Street Scene and Cars in 1962, Kodachrome Slide" https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/TA9YvR.jpg eBay I'll add that we're looking at Bullock's Pasadena. (it's not a very good photograph) . |

--My first thought is that it looked like an oven mitt. --A lot of the building designs currently being proposed all have greenery. I'm not opposed to greenery, but my thoughts run to: Greenery needs water. Water is in lessening supply. Greenery draws insects or other pests. Do these new buildings come with gardeners. --It would be across the street from this newish building: Emerson College. https://cdnassets.hw.net/dims4/GG/8f...ap-emerson.jpg |

You found my water tower! :worship: Thanks, odinthor. It appears that Carmelita Park is now Carmelita Gardens and is home to on ramps and off ramps. :( https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...923/ZaKxPw.jpg GSV . |
Who would put gardens amongst freeway on and off ramps?

I thought there would be more pictures to find online of this building. :???: It's unusual and "one of Pasadena's landmarks" according to the 1934 clipping. Is this it in a 1962 aerial - same year as the Ebay picture? https://i.imgur.com/6bflOEh.jpg mil.library.ucsb.edu On the streets bordering Carmelita Park, I think this looks the most likely candidate. In 1938 it's appears to be inside the park's bounds in the north west portion, tallying with odinthor's 1934 clipping. https://i.imgur.com/ISu0lcW.jpg mil.library.ucsb.edu About here on a present day map. https://i.imgur.com/Kbc2VLQ.jpg Google Maps |

Is that a house with two gables in the 1938 photograph? Here's a closer look. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...922/fVIqy7.jpg And what about the discarded lumber utility poles in the lower right corner. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...924/VjC2d0.jpg or are they pipes? . |

This is the background of a photo of a Richard Serra sculpture called Base Plate Deflection: In It, On It which was installed at the Pasadena Art Museum (I've cropped out the sculpture itself). Was the sculpture installed before the museum was even built? https://i.postimg.cc/Xq5n9P1N/Richar...Deflection.png Norton Simon Museum |

:previous: Excellent, Mackerm, another photo of the elusive water tower. Believe me they are are few and far in between. Here is some clarifying information. Carmelita Gardens/Park, originally known simply as 'Carmelita', was the 42 acre property of Mrs. Jeanne Carr and Dr. Carr - 7 acres of which became the Norton Simon Museum property. I found this interesting. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/pzYWOy.jpg "Here are the Carrs at a rustic cabin that was on the property when they purchased it in 1880. They loved it so much they could never bring themselves to demolish it." The Carrs are my kind of people. :) The Carrs built a large home (which might have been a boarding house as well) https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/D2ENwL.jpg link coming Later, the Carrs built a much more elaborate home which can be seen in an early Flyingwedge post. (the link is provided at the bottom of the post) I need to research this more to go any further because I'm confused about the homes and where they stood on the property. That said; I have no idea which home is visible in Noir Noir's 1938 aerial. This local blog solved some of the mystery as recently as 2009 but it doesn't mention the unique water tower at all. But a commenter does mention it. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...923/Th9ivQ.jpg pasadenapio No one answered her question. The Carrs are previously mentioned in two NLA posts from 2015. I was confused back then because this rppc was labeled thusly. . . "1910 era RPPC Real Photo Postcard MONETA California Gardena Street Los Angeles" https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/SZDSUx.jpg eBay At the time I looked for a "Gardena Street" but now I realize the seller was just mentioning that there was a "street" in the photograph. duh . |

"Inspired by the curvilinear forms of the Griffith Observatory, Capitol Records Building, Hollywood Bowl, and the Cinerama Dome, it asserts a new typology for the office of the future." They are really trying. Hardly much there for inspiration for a major office tower. Another image. https://urbanize.city/la/sites/urban...?itok=Q51P0gCc |

Here's what you would have seen if you were a bus passenger pulling up to the corner of to the S. Broadway and 3rd St. in 1972. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/922/L0URIZ.jpg eBay I'm not sure what's going on with the policemen and that van. It appears that one of them is writing a ticket. Here's a closer look. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/myKwdo.jpg detail Is that a paddy wagon? . |

Mystery location. A handsome sailor poses by a car in Los Angeles. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/dPiaWJ.jpg eBay I don't think we'll be able to solve this mystery location. . . . but that sailor! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/9485/zDmYOe.gif Here's a closer look at the home(?) at the end of the street. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/t1YEVp.jpg detail And the license plate. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/U4Dmqr.jpg in the far distance there is. .um. .something.... https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/3...922/4dnnVg.jpg I showed this to a friend & they thought perhaps we're looking north from San Pedro. . |
